INTRODUCTION - COLOURED INKS
Compared to black inks, there are far fewer treatises dedicated to coloured, and other types of ink. This could be due to the process being similar to making pigments or extracting dyes.
The main treatises containing such recipes are from the treatises Resāle-ye Buqalamun by Muhammad Šāh ibn Aḥmad Šāh al-Wali al Bahmani (15th C) which is the Persian translation of sections of the Arabic Treatise Umdatul Kuttāb by Ibn Bādis Ṣunhāji (11th C) dedicated on coloured ink, Majmu ‘ al-Ṣanāye ‘ (Anonymmous, 16th C) and Kašf al-Ṣanāye ‘ by ‘Ali Ḥosseini (19th C).
